Cell Tower additional lease

I own a cell phone tower in Illinois which is currently used by only one tenant. How can I find those firms which could be interested to install their cell equipment on my tower?

George, first things first. How much ground space is being leased by the current tower company or cellular carrier? Is it a large area 50x50 or 100x100 that could fit additional telecom equipment cabinets or equipment shelters? Also when you negotiated your underlying lease agreement, did you allow the tenant to sublease or did you limit their ability to do so? If the tenant can fit another 360 square foot equipment shelter into the leased ground space footprint, like US Cellular, Verizon or AT&T, then you probably won't have any benefit to marketing for additional carriers.

Also, how many years are left on your lease agreement? If you have 12 or 13 years left then you have a better chance of getting the carrier to come to the table and negotiate an extension and improve the terms. Then it makes sense to market to other carriers.
